Mental Health Stigma Reduction Campaign

CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW

Stop Stigma by Starting a Conversation

In these uncertain times of COVID-19, faced with the effects of social distancing and staying at home as much as possible, mental health and substance use disorders have become a point of focus in our community. In an effort to start a community discussion, The Wellbeing Partners, in partnership with PGP (The Public Good Projects), Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare, and other community sponsors, created a community-led, grassroots campaign with WhatMakesUs and Spokesimals Midwest to improve social acceptance of mental health conditions and substance use disorders in the Douglas, Pottawattamie, Cass, and Sarpy Counties. The campaign pairs research-backed strategies with traditional marketing to help educate the local community about mental health and show that no one is defined by a mental health condition.

WhatMakesUs is a collection of shared stories from people living with a mental health condition and their allies. When you share your story, you show that no one is defined by a mental health condition.

Whether you have a cat, dog, reptile, horse, or pig, we’re looking for animals and pets to step into the limelight and become a Spokesimal for mental health.

More than 40 million people in the United States have a mental health condition. And, while these mental health conditions are very common, people with them are often made to feel alone or different.

Here at Spokesimals Midwest, we use animals and pets to spread simple messages of encouragement, support, and facts about mental health to everyone!
